Nala

⚠️ Some stories are hard to read… but they must be told. Meet Nala 💔 Nala is a large Yorkie cross, around 7 years old now. But the life she lives today is nothing like the life she came from. Before she came to us, Nala lived on a scrap yard. A lonely place filled with broken cars, rusted metal and danger at every corner. She wasn’t alone though. She had her brother. They survived together among the wreckage and the larger dogs that roamed the yard. Two small dogs in a place that was never meant for them. Then one day something happened that no animal should ever experience. The owner returned to the yard and found Nala’s brother was gone. Not missing… Not escaped… Gone. All that remained was his nose, and the large dogs finishing the last pieces of him. Imagine what Nala must have seen. Imagine what she must have heard. That moment sealed her fate too. Because if she stayed there… she would have been next. So we took her immediately. When Nala arrived at the sanctuary she didn’t bark. She didn’t cry. She didn’t even wag her tail. For months she barely made a sound. She would slowly walk around the garden, quietly watching everything, then curl up and sleep. Almost like she was trying to disappear. The trauma she had seen had taken her voice away. But something beautiful started to happen. Little by little the other rescue dogs began to approach her. Sniffing her… inviting her to play… showing her that not all dogs are cruel. Slowly… cautiously… Nala began to trust. And one day… she barked. Just once. Now? Now she barks and barks and barks! Sometimes we even joke that we wish there was a pill to quiet her down. But the truth is… We never want her to be silent again. Because that noise means she feels safe. That noise means she feels alive. That noise means she is finally a dog again. Today Nala runs around the garden playing with the other rescues, chasing, barking and enjoying the life she was almost robbed of. But stories like Nala’s only have happy endings because of people like you. Without donations we cannot rescue them.
