About
❤️ Bella – The Night She Chose Us Not every rescue begins with us searching. Sometimes… the animal rescues themselves. Bella is one of those stories. It was a stormy night. The wind was howling, rain hammering down, and we were out feeding the horses like we always do. In the middle of the chaos, something moved. A small head slowly popped up over the wall. I went closer to look. And in she ran. Soaked to the bone. Wet. Hungry. Scared. She was actually fatter than a typical street dog, which made us assume she had probably been in a house somewhere before. That made it even more confusing… and even sadder. She didn’t hesitate. She ran straight into an empty stable, circled once, and collapsed onto the straw bed as if she had finally reached the only safe place left in the world. We dried her off as best we could. Put food and water down — which she demolished in seconds. We laid out a warm dog bed, but no… she chose the straw. Maybe it felt safer. Maybe it reminded her of somewhere she’d sheltered before. We’ll never know. The weather was still awful, so we left her tucked up in the stable for the night. The next morning the sun was shining. We went to check on her, wondering if she would be gone. Instead, she sat up, tail wagging. She went outside forgetting she was even there, she followed me and I thought, crap she might run away… but nope. She turned around and walked calmly back to her bed, curled up happy and content. She had made her choice. We took her to the vets — no microchip. They estimated she was less than a year old. We put posters up everywhere. Nobody came forward. Nobody claimed her. So we chipped her ourselves. And she stayed. Today Bella is around seven years old. She is the steady companion to Taco, our 16-year-old gentle giant who struggles with being indoors and has always needed his outside kennel and secure sleeping area. Bella fits him perfectly. Calm where he is anxious. Gentle where he is strong. On that stormy night, she didn’t just find shelter. She found home. --- If Bella’s story touched your heart, please consider donating to help us continue rescuing animals who find their way to us.
